Dominique Roger's Domaine du Carrou wines have been staples at the Corkscrew since the day we opened the shop. The Roger family has been making wine in the village of Bué, one of the fourteen communes of the Sancerre appellation, since the 17th century. Wines from Bué have a high reputation for its complex and exceptional terroir and limestone-rich soils, granting Dominique’s wines pure expression and identity. Dominique sustainably farms 11.3 hectares of vines with certified Level 3 HVE (High Environmental Value). No herbicides or pesticides are used in the vineyards and all harvesting is done manually.
The Carrou Sancerre is uncommonly fine, with a brilliant pale green color and soaring aromatics of green apples, pear and jasmine. The wine is textbook Sancerre Blanc from the village of Bué--the highest elevation in Sancerre with the most calcareous soil. This is chiseled, tightly wound and incredibly complex Sauvignon Blanc. I'd argue one of the best in the world! Domaine du Carrou Sancerre Blanc is the product of one of the most talented and inspired winegrowers in Sancerre. Enjoy!
