The Teycheney family have been winegrowers in Bordeaux since 1837 when Pierre Roux bought his first few hectares of vines. Pierre's son, Albert, started the family's first commercial winery — Château la Loubière, which is located in Montussan on the hillsides just north of Entre-Deux-Mers. The estate's name translates from Occitan as "territory of wolves," as the vineyards abut a forest where packs of wolves once ran wild. Today, the father and daughter team of Patrick and Caroline Teycheney sustainably farm la Loubière, working towards organic certification. The family's multiple estates, including Château la Loubière, are managed under the name Vignobles Jade and managed by Caroline.
The Château la Loubière rouge is a 88/12 blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged for seven months in amphora. The nose shows an abundance of ripe red fruits with a touch of pepper. On the palate, juicy, fresh fruit flavors cascade across the tongue (red and black currant and blueberries) riding across a beautiful balance of silky tannins and delicate acidity. The finish is long, elegant and complex. Try with a classic Philly-style cheesesteak or black bean burgers with chipotle crema.
