Château Latour Camblanes consists of almost 35 hectares of vineyards located in the village of Camblanes in the heart of the Cadillac Côtes de Bordeaux appellation. In 2013, the estate acquired a 20-hectare vineyard that belonged to the INRA (Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique), the French government's research institute for agricultural sciences, and one of the leading agricultural research bodies in the world. These vines were the government's experimental vineyards in Bordeaux, and are planted to the best clones with the most cutting edge farming practices and incredible biodiversity. Starting in 2014, they were used in the production of Château Latour Camblanes, and the estate continues farming the vines according to the INRA's practices. All the estate's vines are south-facing on chalky-clay slopes that have excellent natural drainage. Careful attention to detail in the vineyards and the cellar result in exceptional wines. The Château is certified Terra Vitis for sustainable farming.
The 2019 Château Latour Camblanes is a blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. Once again, I am astounded by the quality the 2019 vintage shows in wines from every region of Bordeaux, from Grand Cru Classé to humble Bordeaux AOP and everything in between. In the glass, the Seigneurie de Camblanes sits a wonderful deep purple with garnet highlights. Aromas of ripe black fruits — plum, black cherry and boysenberry — intermingle with notes of sweet pipe tobacco and anise. On the palate, the wine is rich and concentrated with soft, lush tannins and a velvety mouthfeel; the fruit, sweet and luxurious, is complemented by a mix of spice and earth flavors that intrigues the senses. This is an excellent wine for slow-cooked roasts or barbecue meats, or a perfectly-grilled, meaty cheeseburger.
