Weingut Eva Fricke - Kiedrich - Riesling Trocken 2020
Eva Fricke had a long journey to become the winemaker she is today. Her parents were medical professionals, and no one in her family had any connection to the wine business. However, after a summer job at a vineyard in South Africa, Eva decided to study wine at Geisenheim. While there she interened at some prestigious estates in Piedmont, Ribera del Duero and the Rheingau. After graduating in 2001 she worked in the Rheingau, and began making miniscule amounts of her own wine in 2004. In 2011, Eva decided to focus solely on her own wine, and since then has been running her organic vineyards and making her own wine under the Weingut Eva Fricke label.
The estate consists of 10 hectares of vines in the Rheingau, 7 of which are in production, planted mostly to Riesling. The Kiedrich Riesling is from different vineyard plots around the village of Kiedrich. This is a dry Riesling with flavors of kumquat and candied citrus fruits with a vibrant steely acidity and subtle minerality. The power of the wine is readily apparent and balances beautifully with the intensity of flavor. Enjoy with sauerkraut and apples served with assorted wursts.
