Tamber Bey Vineyards was founded in 1999 by vintner Barry Waitte when he purchased an eleven acre property in Oakville and a sixty acre vineyards in the Yountville. Barry planted three acres of premium Cabernet Sauvignon on the Oakville property, the vineyard being named the Oakville Estate Vineyard. Originally named "Two Rivers Vineyard" in tribute to the Napa River which borders the vineyard, the Yountville vineyard is now known as the Deux Chevaux Vineyard, which is French for "two horses." This pays homage to Tamber Bey's namesakes — his first two Arabian horses — Tamborina and Bayamo. Tamber Bey's first wines were released in 2003. In 2012, Barry purchased the twenty-two acre Sundance Ranch in Calistoga and converted the 15,00 square foot covered arena into a 60,000-gallon winemaking facility, which was in full operation for the 2013 harvest. Guests experience horses in wine country when they visit Tamber Bey. The tasting room is located in the original barn clubhouse and a 16-stall barn surrounds the courtyard, where guests can taste wine and mingle with the horses.
The Tamber Bey Deux Chevaux Vineyard offering is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon which pours a deep, dark ruby red from rim to rim. A gentle swirl of the glass rewards you with soaring aromas of dark fruits — cassis and blackberry — tinged with notes of tobacco and cedar. The palate is big and bold with those dark fruit flavors returning mixed with hints of crushed stone, baking spice and a touch of vanilla. This Napa Cab is well-structure with firm, yet pleasing tannins that carry you to a rich, lengthy finish. Pair with a medium-rare, thinly sliced London broil, fresh off the grill.
