Roberto Ferraris - Nobbio 2021
The Ferraris estate — established in 1923 — sits on 9 hectares (just over 22 acres). The soil and microclimate of Asti seem perfectly matched to the Barbera grape, and as a result, growers in the region plant Barbera in their best vineyard sites. Roberto's vines are old (some 80+ years of age) and are deeply rooted in sandy, calcareous soil. With these ideal conditions, Barbera can fully hit its stride.
Nobbio is a single vineyard of 70-year old plants of very distinctive, extremely concentrated Barbera. It is one of the best crus in all of Southern Piedmont for this traditional variety. Vinified in stainless steel vats under controlled temperature, this wine retains pristine fruit aromas and primary flavors that are supported by considerable structure, complex texture and great balance. Exuberant and very fine, this is Barbera to savor young or to see evolve in time.
