Liquid Farm — the project of Jeff Nelson and winemaker James Sparks — began in 2009 with the production of just four barrels of wine. Focused primarily on Chardonnay, Liquid Farm aims to craft cool-climate wines reminiscent of the Old-World classics with fruit from the top vineyard sites in the Sta. Rita Hills and Santa Maria Valley AVA's of Santa Barbara County, California. The name Liquid Farm symbolizes the journey of wine from vineyard to glass: liquid from farming. The wines are made with minimal intervention, little to no new oak and no additives or machines to manipulate the final product.
The White Hill Chardonnay is named after the chalky white hills of Chablis -- which produce the ultimate cool-climate, mineral-driven Chardonnays -- and the diatomaceous earth of Santa Rita Hills. The fruit comes from three Sta. Rita Hills vineyards: 49% from Clos Pepe, 33% from Kessler-Haak and 18% from La Rinconada. The wine goes through native yeast fermentation and aging in neutral French oak barrels for 10 months. White Hill Chardonnay is saline, floral and subtly fruity with notes of jasmine and tangerine and a firm minerality that balances beautifully with the wine's lively and energetic acidity. Enjoy with raw oysters, spicy shrimp or grilled tuna.
