The Tardy family has been producing wine since 1920, when Victor Tardy began working as a sharecropper for Domaine Camuzet in Vosne-Romanée. Jean Tardy took over for his father in 1966 continuing his work and receiving more vineyards in métayage (sharecropping). Along the way, Jean put great effort into acquiring his own plots throughout Burgundy. Jean’s son, Guillaume, came on to work with his father in 2000 after viticultural school in Beaune and oenology school in Dijon.
Guillaume began as winemaker in 2001 under Jean’s watchful eye and by 2003, he was running the estate, weaving together the modern winemaking techniques he had studied with the traditions of those who came before him. Guillaume worked to reconstruct the domaine in the years that followed, returning the vineyards back to Cazumet, while continuing to upgrade those acquired by his father. He now farms 4.5 hectares, producing traditional and elegant wine in miniscule quantities. While their wines are exported to many countries, a large portion of his sales in France are to a large selection of Michelin-starred restaurants.
Domaine Tardy’s Vigneux Vosne-Romanée displays a bright ruby red in the glass with intoxicating aromas of macerated red berries and dried flowers. The palate is elegant and focused with flavors of red cherry and strawberry complemented with notes of red licorice and sweet tobacco. This wine is well-structured, yet round with soft minerality, delicate acidity and ultra-fine tannins. The finish is long, refined and graceful. Pair with black truffle risotto, veal marsala or roasted leg of lamb.
