Domaine Jacques Rouzé is a family domaine that has been making wine for several generations. Today the estate is run by Jacques Rouzé's son, Côme, after Jacques handed over the reins some years ago. It consists of 14 hectares of Sauvignon Blanc in Quincy, 4 hectares of Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc in Reuilly, and 1.6 hectares of Gamay and Pinot Noir in Châteaumeillant. The father and son team focuses their attention and efforts on the vineyards and the winery, working in a sustainable manner to best express the terroirs from which their wines originate. You may recognize the Rouzé name: Jacques' daughter is none other than Adèle Rouzé, the gifted winemaker who crafts one of our most popular Sauvignon Blancs from her vineyards in Quincy!
Jacques Rouzé's Châteaumeillant is a blend of 80% Gamay and 20% Pinot Noir grown on soils composed of silica and quartz, predominantly sandy and sandy-clay. In the glass, the wine shows a lovely garnet hue with ruby highlights. The nose is wonderfully aromatic with notes of fresh red berries, tea leaves and purple flowers. On the palate, the wine shows a remarkable concentration of crunchy fruit flavors and rocky minerality with a forest fruit undertone, all wrapped in soft, svelte tannins and framed by a refreshing acidity. The finish is long and invigorating with a complex interplay of fruit, mineral and floral flavors. The Gamay and Pinot Noir blend together seamlessly to make a supple, fruity wine that shows impeccable character while also highlighting the terroir of Châteaumeillant and the cool climate, Loire style. Drink with a slight chill — about 55 to 60 degrees — and enjoy with veal cutlets, grilled chicken or roast lamb chops.
