Château Pavie-Macquin was established in 1887 by agricultural engineer and Bordeaux pioneer, Albert Macquin, who deserves much of the credit for helping solve the phylloxera epidemic through the use of grafting louse-resistant rootstock. Today, the estate sits at 26 hectares and is run by Albert's three grandchildren: Benoît, Bruno and Marie Jacques. Their vineyards are farmed organically in the mix of clay and limestone soils which sit upon the chalk/limestone bedrock of the estate. The resulting wines hold true to their terroir and are extraordinary.
The wines of Pavie Macquin benefit tremendously from the mix of clay and limestone soils that sit upon the chalk/limestone bedrock of the estate, which produce intensely powerful wines with structure and elegance, full of concentrated flavors that build into a lengthy finish, offering wonderful freshness and vibrancy. Château Pavie Macquin is ranked as a Premiere Grand Cru Classé B in St.-Émilion.
