Château Cantenac-Brown is a Troisièmes Cru, or 3rd Growth, in the 1855 Classification of Bordeaux. The Château is in the commune of Margaux on the left bank of the Gironde Estuary. It was founded by a Scotsman, John Lewis-Brown who purchased the vineyards in the early 19th century. Today the estate is sustainably farmed and the utmost care and attention to detail is observed in all aspects of the vineyard and the cellar.
The wines of Château Cantenac-Brown are very perfumed and elegant, displaying beautiful aromas of black cherry, cassis and oak with lots of energy and freshness in their youth. On the palate these wines always display a fruit forward pleasure to them but with a tight acidity and mineral complexity. Pair this wine with duck or goose served with braised red cabbage and chestnuts.
