Miguel Regil’s passion for wine drove him to create Vega de Tera with his father-in-law, Manuel Cunarro. Miguel’s training as an engineer helped in many ways, although, Miguel and Manuel still needed someone to make the wine: enter Xavier Iturria, who shares their vision for uncompromising quality and organic farming. Xavier works as the technical director and oversees the farming and winemaking. The vineyards are located in Toro and Brime de Urz; an area of Castilla y Leon where winemaking is said to be pre-Roman. The 40-60 yearl old vines are bush trained, and, since they were never affected by Phylloxera, are ungrafted. All farming and winemaking activities are done with reference to the biodynamic calendar.
The Vega de Tera Los Tres Valles is made from 100% Verdejo grown in clay-slate soils. The vines were planted in 1980. All grapes are fermented with natural yeasts in stainless steel; no malolactic conversion; aging in tank for 8 months. Los Tres Valles is a bright, crunchy Verdejo with beguiling aromatics and wonderful texture on the palate. Enjoy with a fresh vegetable salad topped with sheeps milk cheese.
