Leo Erazo started A Los Viñateros Bravos as a tribute to all of the small, brave winemakers in Chile. After receiving his degree in Agronomy and Enology from the University of Chile, Leo travelled around the world consulting with many different wine properties, focusing on soil science, geology and biodynamics. When he returned, Leo started his own project with 1.5 hectares of bush-trained vines in Itata, Chile. He began working with Pedro Parra, the world-renowned terroir specialist, who eventually became his mentor and best friend. Leo organically farms old bush vines in the steep hillsides of the Itata Valley in volcanic and granite soils. Many of his vines are over 100 years old. In the winery, all Leo's wines are fermented with native yeasts, aged in very old barrels with absolutely zero additons and only small doses of sulfur right before bottling.
La Resistencia is made from a small, 0.2 hecatre parcel of 180 year-old País vines in the Itata Valley. This a fresh, delicate wine though well structured with wonderful red fruit flavors and notes of cassis. It is marked by fine-grained tannins that give a very unique structure and create a long lingering finish with a distinctive mineral character due to the volcanic soils where these old vines thrive. A genuine reflection of the persistence of Itata's old vines, farmers and way of life. An excellent wine to enjoy on a picnic with a loaf of fresh baked bread, cured meats and soft cheeses.
