Zlatan established their farm and winery together in 1986 on the southern slopes of Hvar Island, on Makarska below Mt. Biokovo, and in Šibenik, all loctated in Dalmatia. Since its foundation, the wine maker Zlatan Plenkovic has won the Best Croatian Winemaker award and has been recognized as one of the top producers in the country. The vineyards around Šibenik are located on rocky, rolling hills with soils composed of clay topsoils and a limestone foundation. The vines are dry-farmed and there is minimal amount of spraying in the vineyard, with only a small amount of powdered sulfites.
This 100% Plavac Mali is made from hand harvested grapes that were fermented with natural yeasts in stainless steel tanks and aged in a mix of tank and large wooden barrels for 18 months. The wine pours a deep purple with blue reflections. The aromas are restrained and discreet, just teasing out notes of dark cherry and raspberry, currants and herbs. On the palate, the wine is rich and full-bodied with fine tannins and a firm acidity. Enjoy with roasted red meats, tomato sauce pasta dishes, venison and hard, aged cheeses.
