Winery Sixteen 600 - Zinfandel 2018
Phil Coturri, proprietor of Winery Sixteen 600, is one of California's organic and biodynamic farming pioneers. He believes that great wine starts not only with healthy vines, but a healthy and vibrant vineyard ecosystem. To that end, all the grapes Phil uses for Sixteen 600 are certified organic or biodynamic, grown in the lean, rocky soils of Moon Mountian AVA in Sonoma. His meticulous vineyard work and thoughtful management results in wines that are ripe, vibrant, full-flavored that highlight the varietal and the terroir from where they come.
The Sonoma Valley Zinfandel is sourced from three certified organic vineyards, all farmed by Phil Coturri in the Sonoma Mountain and Moon Mountain appellations: Dos Limones Vineyard, Buschera Vineyard and the Sixteen 600 Estate. All vines are head trained and grown in volcanic and rocky alluvial soils. The fruit is fermented in open top stainless steel with native yeasts, then aged 22 months in neutral oak barrels. Brilliant ruby color with aromas of black cherry, white pepper and baking spices, this is classic, old-school Sonoma Zin; fruit forward but with an excellent balance of acid, tannin and alcohol.
