The Steindorfer winery is a small family estate with 25 acres located in the village of Apetlon in the Seewinkel region of Burgenland (northern shore of Lake Neusiedl). The family has been making wine since 1896 around the village of Apetlon as well as near the Lake Neusiedl shore. The vineyards along the lake are perfect to produce all levels of sweet wines, while the vineyards around Apelton are suited to making dry, intense reds from Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch and St. Laurent, as well as fresh, vibrant whites from Pinot Gris, Welschriesling and Chardonnay. Soils range from loess to densely packed black earth, old sedimentary and sand.
The St. Laurent for Steindorfer's Reserve come from "Mom's Vineyard" (it is Rosa Steindorfer's favorite vineyard) grown on topsoil of mineral rich black earth with sandy loam subsoils. All grapes are hand harvested and fermented in stainless steel tanks, then aged for 14 months in new barriques. Mid-purple color with enticing aromas of dark berries and spice. The palate is well-balanced and elegant with strong concentration of fruit flavors, refined tannins and vibrant acidity. Drink now or age for 5-10 years. Enjoy with rich, full flavored meat stews.
