Florian Faust is the fifth generation of his family to run this 17.5 hectare estate. The estate is located in Westhofen, with vines in three of the most prestigious vineyards around the village: Kirchspiel, Morstein and Steingrube. This area of the Rheinhessen is characterized by limestone soils, which give the wines richness and a firm structure, but also great fruit purity and a saline minerality. The Rheinhessen is Germany's driest wine-producing region, and also its sunniest, which adds to the concentration and extract found in many of the region's wines. For Florian, most of his work is done in the vineyard, making sure the ripeness and phenolic complexity is there, without the corresponding alcohol and glycerol heft. He is a master at achieving this delicate balancing act, and as a result, his wines are absolutely dazzling.
Elektrisch translates to electric, and that's exactly the sensation you get when drinking the beautiful Feinherb from Rheinhessen. The Riesling grapes are sourced primarily with fruit from the Westhofen Grand Cru vineyard Aulerde, with the balance being fruit bought from Florian's close friends in the village. Brilliant light-lemon color. On the nose, aromas of key lime, grapefruit and orange blossom mix with a flinty mineral note. The palate is off-dry with a fine-tuned acidity and creamy mouthfeel with ripe citrus, apple and a smokey minerality that lead into a refreshing, bracing finish. Even though there is over 35 g/l residual sugar, the wine finishes dry and fresh, perfectly balanced by its high levels of vibrant acidity. An ideal wine to accompany a plate of assorted cheese, spicy fish tacos or fried pork cutlets.
