Daniel Twardowski has been crafting some of the most exceptional Pinot Noir in the Mosel since 2011. After graduating from the International Wine Management program at the University of Heilbronn, he was able to purchase a small estate (3 hectares) at the village of Neumagen-Dhron in the Hofberg vineyard where (to his neighbor's horror) he ripped out the Riesling vines and planted Pinot Noir. He labeled his wine Pinot Noix Ardoise: Noix being French for nuts (the foot of the Hofberg site has large clumps of walnut trees, and the shells of walnuts can be found all over the vineyard after the birds use the slate to break open the shells) and Ardoise, which is French for slate. Since 2011, Daniel has been working tirelessly to create a world-class Pinot Noir that can rival the best while speaking the to the slate soils and terroir of the Moselle. If you have the opportunity to taste the wine, you would be hard pressed to say he hasn't.
