Vinos Masintín - Cinsault 2020
Masintín is an old Inca word for "what is realized, not what stays in theory".
Vinos Masintín was founded in 2017 by three wine enthusiasts from Belgium and one Chilean winemaker, Diego Urra Gosselin. Together, they aim to produce small-scale, honest wines from forgotten sites in Chile from the Maule and Itata Valley. Masintín sources all their grapes from old vines and non-irrigated parcels owned by small farmers who they support in their move to regenerative farming. They harvest País, Cariñena and Garnacha from Maule Valley and Cinsault, Moscatel and País from Itata Valley.
The Vinos Masintín Cinsault is made from 95% Cinsault and 5% Cariñena from over 60-year-old vines farmed organically and biodynamically on granite slopes in Chile's Itata Valley. All grapes were hand harvested and de-stemmed, fermented with native yeasts in concrete and cocciopesto amphoras; 13% of the wine went to used barrels, 7% to stainless steel tanks and 80% was aged in cocciopesto amphoras for 10 months. This is an exceptional expression of old-vine Chilean Cinsault, showing fabulous concentration of raspberry and cherry fruits with a striking minerality and vibrant energy from the granite soils. Enjoy with marinated flank steak alongside spiced, grilled vegetables.
