Roberto Ferraris - Barbera d'Asti 2022
The Ferraris estate — established in 1923 — sits on 9 hectares (just over 22 acres). The soil and microclimate of Asti seem perfectly matched to the Barbera grape, and as a result, growers in the region plant Barbera in their best vineyard sites. Roberto's vines are old (some 80+ years of age) and are deeply rooted in sandy, calcareous soil. With these ideal conditions, Barbera can fully hit its stride.
There are two places in the world where Barbera thrives like nowhere else: Alba and Asti. From the turret of Roberto Ferraris’ cantina one can see an endless panorama of vineyards situated on the nearby sloping hills. His Barbera vineyards are the steepest of all, wonderfully exposed to the morning sun. In the glass, this 100% Barbera displays a mid-purple color with garnet highlights. Aromas of fresh raspberries, cherries and blackberries explode from the glass with a wonderful undertone of fresh earth. The palate displays a luscious concentration of juicy and lively fruits that pirouette across the palate effortlessly, leading to an invigorating finish. A smooth and energetic mouthfeel combine with a perfect balance of fruit, earth and spice combine to present a Barbera that highlights the exceptional terroir of Asti. Enjoy with a plate of cured meats and artisanal cheeses, mushroom ravioli or veal chops.
