Gérald Lafont and Baptiste Olivier are known throughout France as two of the Rhône Valley's top oenologists. Their consulting work for many of the best estates throughout the region and in Provence has given them access to a percentage of the grape yield from some of the highest acclaimed vineyards in the region. Their collective wine-making knowledge and experience, combined with their access to some of the top fruit in the region, allows them to consistently create some of the best value wines in the Rhône today.
Olivier & Lafont's Côtes du Rhône Blanc is a blend of 70% Viognier, 15% Clairette and 15% Grenache Blanc fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks. In the glass, the wine is light gold in color with a clear, water-white rim. Intense aromas of tropical fruit, jasmine, and citrus explode out of the glass. On the palate, the Côtes du Rhône Blanc is full-bodied and textured. Beautiful flavors of passion fruit, baked pear and wet stone drift across the palate and flow into a long, persistent finish. There is a gentle though lively acidity that keeps the wine fresh, allowing for all the rich flavors and textures to stand out without being overpowering. This is a wonderful example of how the beautiful wines from this region can be full, rich and complex without sacrificing freshness and elegance. It's a shame that more isn't produced! Enjoy with shrimp, scallops or crab; creamy or buttery cheeses; and chicken dishes in a creamy sauce.
