Long Meadow Ranch came into existence when President Ulysses S. Grant signed a land patent granting 640 acres to Civil War veteran E.J. Church. In the late 1800's the property thrived with vineyards, apple orchards, and olive groves, however, all agricultural activities fell dormant during prohibition. It was not until 1989, when the Hall family purchased the estate, that agricultural activity resumed. Today, the 650 acre estate is home once again to vineyards, orchards, olive trees as well as cattle and other produce. Long Meadow Ranch crafts wines from their vineyards in Rutherford, the Mayacamas Mountains and Alexander Valley. They practice an organic, sustainable, integrated farming system that relies on each part of the ranch to contribute to the health of the whole.
The Long Meadow Ranch Chardonnay comes from their estate vineyard at the "deep end" of the Anderson Valley. The wine is aged in 25% new French oak barrels and 75% neutral oak. Mid-gold color with aromas of cool river stones, peaches, hazelnuts and fresh cream. The palate shows a complex layer of fresh and developed flavors with a lovely texture and vibrant acidity that charges the wine as it flows into a persistent and refreshing finish. A lovely cool-climate California Chardonnay that beautifully balances tension and richness.
