Clos Galerne is a 10-hectare estate founded by Myrtille and Cédric Bourez in 2018. The vineyards are located in the heart of Anjou: Pierre Bise and Moulin Brûlé in Beaulieu-sur-Layon, Savennières and Chaume. Chenin Blanc is the dominant grape with small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Gamay, all grown on slate, sandy shale, spilite or Phtanite soils. All grapes are grown organically with minimal tillage, which allows natural cover crops to grow among the vines that provide organic matter and nutrients to the plants. All grapes are hand-harvested and fermented with native yeasts.
Clos Galerne's Savennières is made from 100 year-old Chenin Blanc vines grown on a 2-hectare plot on soils of aeolian sand with green shale and sandstone. The grapes are fermented with native yeasts and aged for 11 months in used barrels. In the glass the wine shows a lovely pale straw color. Aromas of quince, candied citrus and flint plume from the glass. On the palate, the wine shows incredible minerality, concentration and complexity of flavors with an alluring creamy, waxy texture that flow into a long, persistent finish. An energetic and zippy Savennières to drink now or cellar for another 5-10 years.
