Ktima Zafeirakis - Limniona - Red 2018
Christos Zafeirakis is the fifth generation of his family to make wine in Thessaly, on the slopes of Mt. Olympus. He earned his master's degree in oenology from Milan, then worked in Tuscany, Piedmont and Alto Adige before returning home to Tyrnavos where he grew his family estate to 8 hectares and started the first organic vineyards in the area. Zafeirakis’ obsession is first and foremost with his soils, which are domintated by clay. All vineyards are certified organic and throughout the year the vineyards are carefully and rigorously cultivated. In the cellar, all wines are fermented with native yeasts.
The Zafeirakis Limniona is made from 100% Limniona grown on sandy-clay soils with high concentration of flint from certified organic vineyards in Tyrnavos, Paleomylos and Kampilaga. The wine is fermented with native yeasts in 3,000 and 5,000 liter wood tanks, then aged in 1,200 and 2,400 liter barrels. Deep purple color with striking aromas of dried herbs, red fruits and spice. The palate is medium bodied with fresh, linear acidity and well-defined tannins that allow the spice, fruit and herbal flavors to cascade into a lively finish. Enjoy with braised lamb.
