Herdade de Coelheiros is a family estate, located in the Alentejo region of Portugal, that has been producing high quality wines since 1991. The estate itself stretches for over 800 hectares, with 50 hectares planted to vineyards, 40 hectares to a walnut orchard and a vast forest of cork trees where sheep and deer graze freely. The vines are planted on granitic soils and are being converted to organic farming. In the cellar, Herdade de Coelheiros aims to intervene as little as possibe during the winemaking process to allow their grapes to reach their full, natural potential.
Tapada de Coelheiros is one of the classic wines of Alentejo, first produced in 1991, and a flagship of Portuguese Cabernet Sauvignon. A blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Alicante Bouschet, fermented in stainless steel tanks and aged for 18 months in French oak barrels and a further 18 months in bottle. Deep purple color with aromas of cassis, blackberries, spice and tobacco. The palate is rich and full-bodied with silky tannis and great depth and concentration of flavor. The intense black fruit flavors lead into an elegant and persistent finish. Enjoy with grilled beef, sausage or braised meats.
