Gianni Doglia - Barbera d'Asti 2021
Gianni Doglia is a small, 10 hectare family estate located in Castagnole delle Lanze in the Asti region of Piedmont. The estate is in its third generation of family leadership under Gianni and his sister, Paola. Gianni has made the conscious decision to remain a small family operation, which allows him to pay special attention to all aspects of the winemaking process, and ensures he is able to express the essence of his unique vineyards. Out of respect for the land and their family's future, Gianni and Paola practice sustainable viticulture by respecting soil diversity to promote microbial flora and fauna; eliminating use of chemical fertilizer, herbicides and pesticides; and managing and maintaining small wooded areas between the vineyards to increase the local wildlife population. They are members of The Green Experience, a sustainablity initiative launched by producers in Piedmont that provide an accreditation that highlights natural agricultural techniques, conservation of the environment and encouragement of biodiversity.
The Gianni Doglia Barbera d'Asti emits a ruby color with purple highlights. Aromas of fresh cherries, strawberries and earth jump out of the glass. On the palate the wine is juicy with a zesty, refreshing acidity, medium body and low tannins. Succulent red berries coat the palate leading into a stimulating finish of fruit and earth. This Barbera is easy to drink by itself but is such a versatile wine on the table. Try it during pizza night or enjoy with either beef carpaccio or steak tartare.
