Bill Easton is one of the pioneer winemakers of Amador County, California, making wine from old-school varietals like Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon and Barbera. He grows these vines on the volcanic and granitic soils of the Sierra Foothills at high altitudes (some vineyards are as high as 3,200 feet!) The fruit for this 20-year old Zinfandel comes from the old Dickson property — planted in 1910 — and the Baldinelli property — planted in the early 1970’s. These gnarly Zinfandel vines are head-trained and dry-farmed, producing rich, concentrated berries which Bill deftly used to craft this exceptional wine.
The Rinaldi Vineyard in Fiddletown has vines dating back to 1865, when the vineyard was originally planted. Bill approached making wine from this site as if he were crafting wine from a Grand Cru in Burgundy. Aromas of thick brambly blackberry fruit with pepper, anise, clove, and other exotic spices explode from the glass. Fat and mouth-filling with great persistence on the palate; richly structured and dense. A California classic.
