Domaine la Taste - Harmonie de la Taste 2022
Domaine La Taste is run by the Fontan family, one of the first families in Gascony to bottle their own wine, rather than distilling it all to produce Armagnac. The fourth-generation estate is currently run by Nadège, and her brother, Sylvain, who were recent given control by their parents, Jean-Claude and Aline. Together, the brother and sister team manage both the vineyards and the winemaking process. The Fontan estate production is 5% Armagnac, 80% white wine, and 15% red. Their vines are situated on boulbènes soil, the very fine and silty, alluvial-clay soil that is found throughout the region. The siblings are dedicated to "feeding the ground so that it feeds future generations".
The Harmonie de La Taste is a tasty blend of 60% Colombard, 20% Ugni Blanc, 11% Gros Manseng and 9% Sauvignon Blanc. In the glass, the wine is a light gold with green highlights. Aromas of ripe grapefruit, white peach and white flowers explode from the glass in a concentrated, inviting manner, accented with a subtle, mineral earthiness. The first sip of this wine displays an intensity of flavor that is eye-opening. There is a beautiful texture to the wine and a subtle note of honey that adds to its complexity. A fresh, vibrant acidity washes across the palate and leads to a zesty finish that calls you back for more. Enjoy with a tomato and watermelon salad, zucchini pancakes or quinoa-stuffed peppers.
