Franck Besson is a unique producer in Beaujolais: a specialist in traditional-method sparkling wine production. He inherited 4 hectares of high elevation vineyards from his father-in-law, just outside the Cru Julienas, by the village of Jullié, which he decided to use to make sparkling wine from 100% Gamay grapes. All vines are farmed organically and hand-harvested, while in the cellar all Franck's sparkling wines are aged from 6 months to 3 years on the lees.
The sparkling rosé Granit is made from 100% Gamay from vines that are over 40 years old on pink granite soils at 350 meters elevation. The wine is in contact with the skins for 6-12 hours, with the primary fermentation in stainless steel. It is then aged for 12 months in wooden pupitres, before hand-riddling and disgorgement. A charming and refreshing sparkling wine, perfect as an aperitif or to accompany a plate of fried stuffed zucchini blossoms or cured meats and cheeses.
