Clos de la Bonnette is a small, organic domiane rund by the Guiller-Montabonnet family on the centuries old terraces of Condrieu and Côte Rôtie in the northern Rhône. Old gnarled vines are staked on traditional chestnut poles to support them against the strong winds that blow through the valley. The family looks to rescue forgotten and overgrown vineyards and rehabilitate them to produce beautiful wines from Viognier and Syrah grown in granite soils. Part of Clos de la Bonnette's definition of terroir includes the arts of the Rhône and their farm is blessed by the voices of Rhône poets, musicians and artists from the present as well as the past.
The Clos de la Bonnette Cisselande is 100% Syrah from 30 year-old vines grown in clay, silty soils from the plain and plateau of Tupin-Semons in Ampuis in Côte-Rôtie. All grapes are hand-harvested and fermented with indigenous yeasts (10% whole-cluster, 90% destemmed) then aged for 6 months in over 5 year-old 228-liter oak casks. In the glass the wine shows a dark ruby color with garnet reflections. Powerful aromas of purple flowers, red fruits, pepper and spice. The palate is well-balanced with smooth, silky tannins and excellent concetration of ripe fruit flavors. The finish is persitent with an added spice note. Enjoy with cured meats and cheese, barbecue or grilled meats with vegetables.
