Domaine Castera is a 10 hectare estate run by Christian and Franck Lihour in Jurançon,the fifth generation of their family to farm their vines. The vineyards sit at an altitude of 300 meters on sandy-clay soil that is rich in pebbles. Here the Lihour family grows the local varietals Petit Manseng, Gros Manseng, and Petit Courbu. Christian and Franck aim to work with nature, not to force anything on the vines. They make "farmers" wines: unpretentious, delicious, and above all, fun.
Their Jurançon Sec is a 95% Gros Manseng and small amounts of Petit Manseng and Petit Courbu. All grapes are hand-harvested and fermented in stainless steel at low temperature to preserve the fruit flavors of the grapes. The wine rest on the less with frequent stirring until bottling the spring after the vintage. Enjoy this wine with a wide range of foods from rich birds like turkey to ocean and freshwater fish such as perch.
