Bott Frères is located in the village of Ribeauvillé, in the heart of Alsace. Since 1835, some of the oldest wine know-how has been transmitted from generation to generation; father to son. The Bott family does not manufacture wine, it cultivates it. On the estate's vineyards, seven varieties are grown and produced in a wide array of soils and the subsequent wines made in a range of styles. The grape harvest is undertaken manually and the output is monitored in order to produce high quality wines. Ageing takes place in century old oak casks. The results are some of the most food friendly and distinctive wines from Alsace. Since 2019, the estate has been in transition to organic certification.
First of all, do not confuse this wine with the sweet, fortified Muscats of southern France or the sweet — sometimes sparkling — Moscatos of Italy. This is a dry, still wine with an incredibly expressive nose. In fact, Muscat is one of the most aromatic varietals, which is evident in the vineyards, where the fragrant bunches of grapes often attract the local bee population. In the glass, Bott's 100% Muscat displays a lovely pale lemon color. Aromas of fresh-cut flowers, orange blossom, golden grapes and cantaloupe explode from the glass. On the palate, the wine is dry, fruity, light and clean with a remarkable freshness and spirit. Flavors of apricot, mango and tangerine coat the palate, alongside a lovely subtle spice note, all of which are perfectly balanced by the delicate acidity and light body. With the hot summer weather upon us, this is an ideal apéritif.
