Château d'Arce is the Côtes de Castillon property of husband-and-wife team Patrice Lévèque and Hélène Garcin, who also own and run such prestigious estates as Château Barde-Haut and Poesia, both in Saint-Émilion, and Clos L'Eglise in Pomerol. The Château consists of 4.41 hectares on clay soils over limestone planted to 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. The vineyards are organic and certified HVE Level 3 (Haute Valeur Environnementale or High Environmental Value) by the French Ministry of Agriculture. Yearly production is only 3000 bottles.
The 2020 Château d'Arce is a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc aged in 30% new oak barrels and 70% stainless steel tanks for 12 months. The wine pours a dark ruby color with lovely aromas of small black berry fruits with notes of spice, roasted pepper and crushed stone. The palate is full-bodied, yet energetic and fresh with flavors of blackberry and cassis supported by suave tannins and vibrant acidity that leads to an amazingly long finish. An excellent partner to a decadent cheeseburger or other red meats off the grill.
