The Costières de Nîmes is a region steeped in wine history. Back in 500 B.C., the Greeks were the first to cultivate the land of Costières di Nîmes and drink the delicious nectar produced there, making it one of the world’s oldest viticultural regions. Eventually the land was conquered by the Romans, and the wines were enjoyed by soldiers under Julius Caesar's reign. The area was later given to various sects of the Benedictine and Cistern monks, who further cultivated the land and began producing wines of supreme quality. In modern times, Costières de Nîmes used to be considered part of Languedoc, however the climate, soil and wines are more like that of the Rhône, to which it is now associated.
From the Costières de Nîmes region of the southern Rhône Valley comes this gorgeous blend of 60% Roussane, 20% Grenache Blanc and 20% Viognier. The Roustan blanc offers a medley of aromas; rich orchard and stone fruits — apples and peaches — are intertwined with floral notes of hibiscus and jasmine and a touch of orange peel. Three months on the lees ensures the Roustan blanc is exquisitely soft in the mouth with an elegant richness that allows the wine to gently coat the palate. Flavors of white peach, apricot and honeysuckle wash over the mouth as they lead into a pristine finish with just enough acidity to welcome the next sip. This wine is an exceptional southern Rhône blend, the perfect balance of richness and refreshment. Enjoy with Moroccan chicken, lobster or crab seafood salad.
