Chateau Olivier is one of the oldest properties in Bordeaux — wine historians believe the estate dates back as far as the 11th century. Some ancient remnants show that Chateau Olivier is actually one of the few castles in the Bordeaux region: there is even a moat and drawbridge. Today, the estate consists of 220 hectares, though only 55 ha are planted to vines. The rest of the estate is a mix of forests, fields, ponds and streams. The de Bethmann family has owned Château Olivier since 1866, and today Alexandre de Bethmann leads this venerable estate, one of only seven in Graves who are classified for both red and white wine.
The Château Olivier Grand Cru Classé rouge is a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot. Deep purple with garnet highlights. Soaring aromas of cassis, tobacco and blackberry on the nose. The palate is concentrated and complex with powerful tannins and a lively refreshing acidity. Black and red fruits lead into a mineral driven finish. Built to last. Enjoy with roast beef served with a classic Yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes.
