Château Léoville-Las Cases, along with Châteaux Margaux and Latour, are the only three estates on the left bank that can trace their winemaking lineage back to the early 17th century. About a hundred years later, the estate was renamed Léoville, and in the 19th century, it was further divided into the three Léoville estates we have today: Las Cases, Poyferré and Barton. Léoville-Las Cases has been owned by the Delon family since the early 20th century, and under the family’s leadership, has become the most celebrated Château in Saint Julien and one of the top wines in all of Bordeaux.
The 2007 Château Léoville-Las Cases is at a peak stage of maturity; it is drinking perfectly right now. From James Suckling, who gave the wine 95 points after a recent tasting: “Complex aromas of currants, mushrooms and forest flowers. Some leaves. Medium to full body and firm, silky tannins with berry, light vanilla and cedar. Blackcurrants. Cigar box. Just opening. So delicious and drinkable now.” This is a special treat for yourself or any Bordeaux lover in your life. A truly outstanding Super Second.
