Château Brane-Cantenac began in the early 17th century as a small estate known as Domaine Guilhem Hosten, which, even then, produced wine. In 1833 the Baron of Bane purchased the château, and in order to raise the necessary funds, he sold his other property, Château Brane-Mouton (which today is known as Mouton Rothschild). he renamed it Château Brane-Cantenac after the name of the sector where the vineyards are located. In 1855, the estate was ranked as a Duexième Cru, or Second Growth. Today the Château is owned by the Lurton family, ably managed by the capable Henri Lurton, whose expertise and leadership has helped Brane-Cantenac be among the finest Margaux properties.

The vineyards of Château Brane-Cantenac are grown on 75 hectares and planted to 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 4.5% Cabernet Franc and 0.5% Carmenère. The vineyards are micro-managed with a single goal in mind: producing the highest quality grapes while maintaining low yields. The vines are positioned on an illustrious plateau, giving Brane-Cantenac some of the very finest plots in Margaux. The grapes are fermented plot by plot and matured in French oak barrels, 70% of which are new for an average of 18 months. The wines are powerful, complex and long-lived with excellent structure and concentration of flavor.
