Château Beychevelle is ranked a quatrièmes cru, or 4th growth, in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. The estate got its name from the Gascogne phrase "Bêcha vêla" or "baisse voile" (lower the sails) which passing ships on the river would do out of respect for the Château's first owner, an Admiral. This nautical theme continued with the famous emblem of the Château: a ship with a griffon-shaped prow.
The 2019 Château Beychevelle is a blend of 49% Merlot, 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. Deep, opaque purple in color. The exceptionally intense nose is dominated by an alluring mix of mineral and savory aromas buttressed by ripe, juicy black fruits. Fresh and zesty on the palate the Grand Vin possesses an expansive mouthfeel, lustrous tannins and astounding concentration of flavor that lead into a refreshing and never-ending finish. The 2019 Château Beychevelle is a supreme illustration of the vintage, a textbook example of the commune and a wine that will age gracefully for 20+ years. A legend in the making.
