Charles Père et Fille, a family estate located in Nantoux, have been grape-growers and winemakers in Burgundy for several generations. However, it wasn't until 1960, when the domaine started estate-bottling its wines, that they began to make a name for themselves. Everything at the estate is top-notch, from the work in the vineyards to the cellar and beyond. The domaine consists of 14 hectares of vines, 10 in the Hautes-Côtes de Beaune and the rest divided between Volnay, Pommard, Meursault and Beaune. Pascal Charles and his daughter, Pauline, take extensive measures to ensure the highest quality of all their wines, and the results speak for themselves.
Charles Père et Fille Hautes-Côtes de Beaune Blanc is made of 100% Chardonnay from 35-year-old vines planted in a 1.5 hectare vineyard of clay and limestone soil around Nantoux. All grapes are hand-harvested, gently pressed and fermented in large wooden foudres, then aged for 12 months in French oak barrels. In the glass, the wine shows a brilliant mid-gold in color. The nose features an alluring mix of ripe orchard fruits, white flowers, fresh cream, spice and rocky mineral aromas. On the palate, the wine is round and rich with a vibrant freshness, great depth and excellent flavor intensity; I especially love the balance between the vibrant acidity and creamy mouthfeel. Notes of honeysuckle, ginger and pear lead into a textured, crisp and mineral finish. Enjoy with fish in a lemon cream sauce, rotisserie chicken or an artisanal cheese plate.
