For 35 years, Christian Grosset made wine with his brother at their family domaine in the Grand Cru village of Aÿ in Vallée de la Marne, Champagne Gosset-Brabant. In 2015, at the age of 50, he decided to start his own passion project, Champagne Christian Gosset, with 5 hectares of vines in the Grand Cru villages of Aÿ and Chouilly, as well as the Premiers Crus of Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, Dizy and Avenay-Val-d’Or. All grapes are grown organically and are certified HVE – Haute Valeur Environnementale Level 3. His Pinot Noir vines average over 45 years of age and are naturally low-yielding, giving very concentrated grapes with great character and identity that Christian skillfully crafts into Champagnes of extreme expression, finesse and elegance.
Champagne Brut A02 is an assemblage of two important Grand Crus from the 2017 vintage: 85% Pinot Noir from Aÿ in the Vallée de la Marne, and 15% Chardonnay from Chouilly in the Côte des Blancs. The A02 sits in the glass a resplendent light gold marked with a steady stream of bubbles. This Champagne possesses an expressive bouquet of white orchard fruits accented with notes of lemon zest, yellow flowers and lightly toasted brioche. The palate is focused and welcoming with a creamy mousse that supports flavors of Bosc pear, lemon meringue and honeysuckle. Delicate acidity and chalky minerality guide these flavors to a delightful saline-laced finish. A wonderful wine to begin the evening, though perfect for shellfish dishes, especially oysters on the half shell.
