Cascina Vano is a fifth generation winery located in Neive, Italy. The estate is comprised of fifteen hectares of organically-farmed vineyards located in the heart of the Barbaresco. The Rivetti family has been growing grapes since 1890, though it wasn't until 1960 when Beppe Rivetti transformed the farm into a full bottling winery. Currently Beppe's son Bruno — fourth generation winegrower — runs the property with help from his two children, Beatrice and Marco, who are fully educated on the vineyards, the cellar and each of the Rivetti family's wines. The family's pride and passion is foremost the promotion and preservation of the Langhe. Cascina Vano is part of The Green Experience initiative, which is a collective of Piemontese wine producers who together strive to improve the quality of wines and take care of the soil, the biodiversity and the landscape of the Langhe.
Cascina Vano's 2016 Barbaresco Riserva drinks beautifully now, but is still coming into its own. The wine pours a deep reddish garnet in the glass and before you even swirl it, you are rewarded with notes of dark red fruit: strawberry, cherry and black cherry. A few swirls bring out secondary aromas of red flowers and fresh earth. The palate is ample, elegant and complex. Deep, dark red fruit flavors are buttressed by a pleasant tannic structure that show this Riserva's ageability. Balanced by a delightful freshness, Cascina Vano's Barbaresco Riserva finishes long, with notes of spice and cacao hightlighting its pure fruit. Pour yourself a taste and decant for another hour or so, the elegance, depth and complexity will unfold. This is a wine best served with any braised or roasted meat dishes... Short ribs and root vegetables over polenta, Osso Buco, Prime rib... This Barbaresco Riserva is up to the challenge!
