Casal de Ventozela - Rodrigo Vallejo-Cortona - Tinto 2019
Casal de Ventozela — located in the heart of Portugal's Vinho Verde region — consists of 45 hectares of sustainably-farmed vineyards in the Vale do Ave and Vale do Covado sub-regions. The estate is a family-run business with a strong focus on nature and the environment and a genuine passion for wine and nature. The property has a noble history dating back to 1874, though fell into disrepair following the Carnation Revolution on April 25, 1974. The current director of the company, Jose Ferrera Cortinhas, is responsible for resurrecting the estate. In 2008, the winery bottled its first estate wines, after previously selling off each harvest.
Ventozela's Rodrigo Vallejo-Cortona tinto is a bold blend of Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca. Deep purplish red in the glass, this red offers seductive aromas of dark blue and black fruits mixed with notes of dark chocolate and leather. On the palate, this wine is dense and powerful, packed with ripe, dark fruits (blackberry, plum, blueberry) supported by moderate acidity and firm tannins. The finish is long and complex. Pair with grilled, roasted or braised meats.
