Cantina Colonnella is a small co-operative located in the bucolic, hillside village of Colonnella, part of the Teramo Province in northern Abruzzo. While inarguably picturesque, this hamlet benefits from an even more stunning view of the Adriatic Sea. This location, nestled optimally between the sea to the east and the Apennine mountains to the west, presents a unique climate dynamic for winemaking.
Established in 1971, the co-op consists of 120 members who own just 300 hectares of vines, with most members owning less than 2 hectares. Since the membership is so small, every two weeks each member is visited by the co-op's vineyard managers to ensure quality. Ninety percent of the harvest is done by hand and 100% of the co-op's power comes from renewable resources, either from solar power or from an energy company that only uses renewable energy. All grapes are grown organically, though not all farmers are certified.
Le Corone Trebbiano d'Abruzzo is made from 100% Trebbiano, all hand harvested and fermented in temperature control stainless steel tanks. Light lemon in color with a water-white rim, this charming Trebbiano emits aromas of citrus, wet rocks and talc. The palate is light, fresh and lively with an appealing herbal undertone to complement the concentration of orchard fruit flavors. Enjoy with a plate of farm-fresh vegetables drizzled with olive oil and salt.
