The Brunori family have been farming Verdicchio in Cupramontana, Le Marche for generations. In 1956, the family began estate-bottling their wine and selling it in their own shop in Jesi, making them one of the first estate producers in the region. In 1975, the family also began bottling separately their top vineyard, San Nicolò. The wine was put in a Bordeaux-style bottle as opposed the traditional jug-shaped containers to highlight its quality compared to much of the region's other wines, and — thanks to the praise of legendary Italian food and wine expert Luigi Veronelli — it quickly became one of the most sought after white wines in Italy. The Brunori San Nicolò is one of the iconic wines of Le Marche, and arguably the best Verdicchio in the entire country.
The Castelli di Jesi Classico zone is an exceptional area for aromatic, lively white wines made from the local Verdicchio grape. Its beautiful maritime climate combined with its sandy soils interlaced with fossilized shellfish, allow for great minerality and energy to show through in its best wines. And without a doubt, the San Nicolò Cru is widely considered to be one of the best sites in all of Le Marche. This 100% Verdicchio pours a striking gold color, emitting pristine aromas of white flowers, almond, lime blossom, summer peaches and sea stones. On the palate, the wine is richly textured from extended lees contact though perfectly balanced with a lively mineral backbone. The concentration of citrus and stone fruits, wet rocks and floral blossom flow into a long and incredibly refreshing finish. The Brunori San Nicolò is the ideal partner for the local specialty, brodetto — a fish or seafood stew — grilled fish, or delicate meat dishes.
