Bodega Aizpurua - Txakolina 2021
Bodegas Aizpurua is a family-owned winery in Getariako Txakolina along the north coast of Spain near the famous Camino de Santiago in Basque Country. The Aizpurua family has been making wine since 1834 and producing estate wine since 1905. They have 14 hectares of organic vines planted to 95% Hondarribi Zuri and 5% Hondarribi Belza which range in age from 7 to 50+ years old. Small production, artisanal farming and winemaking techniques produce wines of place and excitement.
Aizpurua Txakoli is made from 100% Hondarrabi Zuri (60-year-old vines) planted on sand and clay soils, fermented with native yeasts in steel tanks at low temperature and blanketed in carbon dioxide. Clean and approachable with ample tart fruit and a slight effervescence, this wine has saline, briny character with ample acidity and freshness. Perfect with fresh seafood, it also pairs well with Jamon Iberico or other fatty, cured meats.
