Azienda Vitivinicola Crotin - Aris 2018
Azienda Vitivinicola Crotin 1897 was founded in 2002, when Daniela Russo and her three sons, Federico, Marcello and Corrado, returned to their native Piedmont after living in Calabria. Crotin mean "little cellar" in the local Piemontese dialect and 1897 refers to how long the lands have been owned by the Russo family. The estate is in Maretto, in the hills of Monferrato, consisting of 8.5 hectares of vineyards that grow Busanello (a rare white variety), Freisa, Barbera and Grignolino. The vineyards are certified organic and all wines are fermented with native yeasts and made with low levels of sulfur dioxide.
Crotin's Aris Freisa d'Asti is made from 30-year-old Freisa vines grown in ancient marine soils rich in fossils with white coral, silt and clay at an altitude of 280 meters. All grapes are hand harvested, destemmed and fermented in stainless steel, then aged for 12 months in tank and a further 12 months in bottle. Brilliant dark ruby color with aromas of fresh earth, red flowers and blue and black berries. On the palate, Aris is medium bodied with added flavors of licorice and dark fruits balanced by a fresh mineral lift and racy acidity. Enjoy with marinated grilled steak.
