Azienda Agricola Capanne Ricci - Tenimenti Ricci - Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2015
Tenimenti Ricci is a small family estate in Sant'Angelo in Colle, a village in the southern part of Brunello di Montalcino. The Ricci family have owned the estate since the 1800's when they originally made and sold wine, although, throughout most of the 20th century, the estate was leased to tenants. In the early 1990's, brother and sister — Ferruccio and Ida Ricci — inherited the property and set out to once again make estate wines under their family's name, debuting their first vintage in 1997. Today, Tenimenti Ricci holds 20 hectares of sustainably farmed vineyards, planted primarily to Sangiovese, on the region's famous galestro soils. Ferruccio and Ida strike a perfect balance of innovation and tradition in both the vineyard and cellar.
Tenimenti Ricci's 2015 Brunello di Montalcino is made from 100% Sangiovese fermented with indigenous yeasts, kept on the skins for 25 days and aged for three years in Slavonian botti, then 24 months in bottle. The 2015 vintage is highly regarded by the wine press and producers: It was a warm, ripe vintage that produced rich wines with fabulous fruit concentration coupled with a welcome accessibility, yet possessing the ability to age gracefully. Tenimenti Ricci's Brunello Riserva pours a light transparent ruby color with a slight tawny rim. On the nose, intense aromas of cherries, fresh flowers, underbrush and dried herbs waft from the glass. The palate is soft and powerful with silky tannins and delicate acidity balancing the ripe fruit flavors that flow into a decadent and complex finish. What I love most about the wine is its freshness; even though it has spent three years in barrel and two in bottle, it still exhibits the tension and zip for which great Sangiovese is known. Drink now or enjoy over the next 10 years.
