As a child growing up in Monção, Portugal, Anselmo Mendes familiarized himself with the culture of the vine and wine production, focusing on the local Alvarinho variety. In 1998 he started producing wine with Alvarinho grapes in the Minho Valley, and since then Anselmo Mendes and Alvarinho have become synonomous. He has been lauded by critics from across the wine world as one of the greatest winemakers in Portugal and the most innovative producer of Vinho Verde. He makes wines from Alvarinho in the Minho Valley, Loureiro in the Lima Valley and Avesso in the Douro Valley.
Pardusco is a red Vinho Verde made from a blend of Vinhao, Pedral, Brancelho and Borracal. The wine is pale ruby in color with a spicy, mineral driven nose to compliment the lovely crunchy red berry aromas. The palate is light and bright with tons of freshness and fine-grained tannins that whisper across the mouth as this super easy-drinking wine progresses into an energetic finish. Feel free to drink the bottle with a slight chill and enjoy with a plate of cured ham.
