Agricola Fratelli Broccardo - Barolo Ravera 2017
Fratelli Broccardo has been a family estate since 1940’s, though it wasn’t until the 21st century they began selling their estate wine commercially. Today, the third generation manages their 7 hectares of vineyards in the Langhe, Monforte d'Alba, Barolo and Novello, where they grow Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto and Arneis.
The Ravera is 100% Nebbiolo from 25-year-old vines grown on soils of limestone and clay. The fruit was hand-harvested and fermented in stainless steel, then macerated for 20 days. It was then racked to a combination of new and old 35hl Slavonian and French oak botti, where it aged for 24 months. The result is mid-ruby in color, with aromas of ripe plums, berries, herbs and a hint of spice. Full-bodied, rich pie cherry notes laced with woody herbs are framed by firm tannins and a savory finish. Give this wine a little time to open up and drink now, or cellar for another 10+ years.
