Agricola Fratelli Broccardo - Barolo Paiagallo 2017
Fratelli Broccardo has been a family estate since 1940’s, though it wasn’t until the 21st century they began selling their estate wine commercially. Today, the third generation manages their 7 hectares of vineyards in the Langhe, Monforte d'Alba, Barolo and Novello where they grow Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto and Arneis. In addition to Paiagallo, Broccardo also makes Barolo from the Ravera, I Tre Pais, and Bricco San Pietro Cru sites.
Paiagallo is one of Barolo’s most distinct Cru vineyards; it is an amphitheater with perfect southeast exposure on limestone rich soils. In the glass, the wine shows a brilliant transparent ruby color with orange reflections. The aromas that plume from the glass are striking: raspberries, balsamic, fresh cherries, roses and earth. On the palate, Paiagallo shows its pedigree with loads of sandy tannins that perfectly frame the buoyant fruit concentration that runs parallel to a refreshing acidity. The finish is long and elegant with a perfume-like quality that is so attractive in young, drinkable Nebbiolo. This is truly a stunning wine that delivers amazing complexity, purity, transparency and length right out the bottle! A must have for any Barolo lover, tonight or any night over the next 20 years.
